If you have visited this, or other websites, you will have left a trail that others using your device can find. Other people who use your computer or phone can find out what websites you have been visiting. Here are some ways to reduce the chance that your internet activity can be traced:
Many browsers now have the option of private browsing. If you access websites from private browsing windows, no information from your current browsing session will be saved. You will need to choose this option each time you start a looking at a new website.
Most web browsers have a folder (called the cache) where certain items that have been downloaded are stored for future use. Caches typically include photo images and web page data files. Caches are used to store information so that your web browser can download and load web pages faster.
It is a good idea for you to clear your web browser cache because it:
- Protects your personal information
- Assists in troubleshooting your web browser
- Improves your computer's operating performance
If you are using Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox, you can quickly clear your cache with a keyboard shortcut. While on your web browser, hold down the Ctrl + Shift + Delete buttons on your keyboard. This will open a tab that will show you how to easily clear your browsing data.
Note: Clearing your web browser's cache, will remove all of your saved data, like passwords and your browsing history. Someone who uses your computer could notice that your cache is empty. They might guess that you know how to do this and that you are trying to hide something.
